Pick a question or type your own — we'll show the practical answer.

Can I return an Amazon package at UPS without a box or label?

Yes — choose 'UPS Store drop-off' when starting the Amazon return and show the QR code. They pack and label it free for eligible items.

Common return problems

Return window overview

UPS doesn't set return windows — the retailer does. UPS is how your return travels back. Label and QR-code expiration dates come from the retailer.

Receipt rules

  • ALWAYS take the drop-off receipt at a UPS Store — it's your strongest proof if the retailer claims non-receipt.
  • Drop boxes don't give receipts; prefer a staffed location for valuable returns.

Label rules and drop-off options

  • Amazon and many retailers support label-free QR codes at The UPS Store.
  • A label that 'won't scan' is often a resolution/brightness issue — max screen brightness, or print it.
  • Expired labels must be reissued by the retailer, not UPS.
  • Drop-off option: The UPS Store (staffed, receipts, QR support)
  • Drop-off option: UPS Access Point (retail partners)
  • Drop-off option: UPS drop boxes (no receipt)
  • Drop-off option: UPS pickup (fee may apply)

Refund timeline by payment method

N/A

UPS doesn't issue retailer refunds — refund timing starts when the retailer receives and processes your return.

Common denial reasons

  • Package refused due to prohibited contents (batteries, hazmat) — retailer must provide a compliant method
  • Label expired before drop-off

Refund delayed playbook

  • Track the return: 'Delivered' to the retailer's returns center is the milestone that starts the refund clock.
  • If tracking is stuck >5 business days, contact the retailer (not UPS) with the tracking number — the retailer owns the return label and must open the trace.
